York's Department of Chemistry is recognized as one of the best in the country. A recent survey found that the research produced here had the greatest impact among all Chemistry departments in the country. The Department has some of the most advanced equipment and facilities available and a friendly, helpful staff. With 26 faculty members, it maintains a high level of research excellence, attracting funding and graduate students from all over the world.
And we have a strong commitment to quality teaching.
Our Specialized Honours programme in Chemistry is fully CIC accredited. Accreditations for our Specialized Honours programme in Atmospheric Chemistry and for the Chemistry Major programmes are pending. The design of programmes of study is very flexible: the Chemistry Major can be combined with virtually any other discipline in a Double Major or Major/Minor combination. Chemistry can also be taken as a Minor in combination with a Major in another discipline.
York's main campus is on the edge of Metropolitan Toronto, away from the downtown bustle but only a short ride from the subway.
The campus is large with many playing fields, lots of greenery and wooded areas.
All of the buildings are new. The very newest are the Ice Gardens and the Student Fieldhouse.
There is also a Student Centre which houses student government and club offices, an art gallery, a games room, a day-care centre, a Travel Cuts outlet, a Ticketmaster outlet, seven fast-food outlets, and a restaurant that doubles as a nightclub for 800 people.
All of the conveniences of city life are available in the new York Lanes, a shopping mall right on campus.
There are seven on-campus residences for undergraduates with cafeterias, pubs and other facilities, plus several more for graduate students.
Of course, you'll find all of the facilities you need to indulge in sports and hobbies of all kinds.
